Determining Accident Preventability
Understanding how and why commercial motor vehicle accidents occur is critical to improving fleet safety. On June 12, Jason Adam, Vice President of Fleet Services at Safety Management Systems Inc., will lead an in-depth session at the June OTSC meeting on the essential process of determining accident preventability.
This presentation will explore how each accident must be evaluated individually, using all available facts and established industry guidelines to assess preventability. Jason will explain why this process is vital—not only for identifying root causes but also for coaching drivers and modifying future behavior.
Participants will gain insight into how defensive driving techniques can often prevent accidents, even when another motorist is at fault. Jason will also clarify the important distinction between fault and preventability, and why professional drivers are expected to meet a higher standard of awareness and decision-making on the road.
This session is designed to help fleet professionals strengthen their accident review process, improve driver performance, and reduce future incidents through proactive safety management.
