Periodic Inspection Training

Description

Federal law requires all commercial motor vehicles pass a periodic (annual) inspection. This two-day course will provide a comprehensive understanding of the rules, regulations, and laws as they pertain to commercial motor vehicle inspections and the procedures in performing a safe and effective vehicle inspection. 

This hands-on course has been developed to meet the requirements of FMCSR 396.19 and will include the following topics:

  • Effective use of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation manual
  • Inspection criteria of 49 CFR Part 393
  • Inspection criteria of 49 CFR Appendix G
  • Comparison of Appendix G and the roadside inspection criteria
  • Differences of Appendix G and the CVSA OOS
  • Familiarization with defective components
  • Criteria of 49 CFR Part 396
  • Procedure for a systematic and effective inspection

Participants should have at least one-year experience as a mechanic or CMV maintenance personnel from a motor carrier maintenance program or commercial garage. All attendees will receive the FMCSR manual, CVSA Charts, and other course material. With the passage of a short written exam, attendees will also receive a Certificate of Completion.
